Laity Exhibit Faith in the Rain
Holy Family parishioners in Labasa exhibited their faith in the rain as they re-enacted Jesus Christ’s journey to the crucifixion through Labasa Town on Good Friday.
Despite the rain and heavy breeze, parishioners accompanied youths who had re-enacted the 14 Stations of the Cross.
Parish priest Father Euikyun Jung said as part of a group prayer known as the Stations of the Cross, followers go spiritually through a re-enactment to the locations of Jesus’ last moments on earth.
The walk follows Jesus final journey after being sentenced to death by Pontius Pilate through to his burial in his tomb.
More than 200 parishioners turned up at the 9am Stations of the Cross walk service. “Station of the Cross is truly a time for us Catholics to connect to Jesus,” Fr Jung said. “By 9am all parishioners had gathered at the church to prepare for the station walk. “It’s really a way for us to know and understand what Jesus went through until he was crucified.”
Parish youth leader Sakiusa Ocioci said youths were preparing for the re-enactment for almost a month.
They camped at the church while practising every afternoon.
“Youth participation in such religious events is vital, it helps us spiritually and mentally to understand our journey with Christ and helps us be more proud of our faith,” Mr Ocioci said.
“Youths from all sectors in Macuata Province took part in this Stations of the Cross walk.”
Along the route of this spiritual journey are several stops or stations that represent different aspects of Jesus’ suffering and death.
This includes the time Jesus carries his cross, is crucified and when Jesus is placed in the tomb.
