The resurrection of Jesus

- WAISEA NASOKIA NADI Feedback: WAISEAN@fiJISUN.COM.FJ

The resurrection of Jesus holds profound significance from a Christian human rights perspective, intertwining themes of justice, redemption, and hope.

In the context of social justice and human rights advocacy, the resurrection serves as a powerful symbol of ultimate justice prevailing over oppression and injustice.

Those were the comments made by Sabrina Iqbal Khan-Sharma an International Human Rights Law Consultant with Iqbal Khan & Associates based in Lautoka.

She was historically admitted to the High Court of Fiji and the Supreme Court of Victoria.

She has published eight books to date and has a passion for community engagement and dialogue, poverty alleviation, and advocating for the rights of women worldwide.

Ms Khan-Sharma believes that from a Christian human rights view point, the resurrection of Jesus symbolises the triumph of justice over injustice.

“Just as Jesus, an innocent and righteous individual, was unjustly condemned and crucified, his resurrection signifies God’s ultimate vindication of righteousness.

“This narrative resonates deeply with issues of social justice where marginalised and oppressed communities often face systemic injustices without redress.

“The resurrection offers hope that even in the face of apparent defeat and oppression, true justice will ultimately prevail.

“It serves as a beacon for those working towards human rights and social justice, reminding them that their efforts are not in vain but are part of a larger narrative of restoration and redemption.”

Resurrection as a call to action:

She said the resurrection of Jesus can be seen as a call to action

for Christians engaged in human rights work.

“Just as Jesus’ resurrection transformed despair into hope and death into life, it challenges believers to actively participate in bringing about positive change in society.

“The belief in the resurrection inspires individuals to stand up against injused, and work towards creating a more just and equitable world.

“By embodying the spirit of Jesus’ resurrection in their actions, human rights advocates can draw strength from the assurance that their labor is not futile but is aligned with God’s ultimate plan for justice and reconciliation.”

Resurrection as a foundation for human dignity:

She said the resurrection underscores the inherent worth and dignity of every individual.

“In advocating for human rights, Christians can draw upon the belief that all humans are created in the image of God and are therefore deserving of respect, equality, and justice.

“The resurrection narrative reinforces the idea that every person has value in the eyes of God, regardless of their social status or circumstances.

“By upholding the principles embedded in the resurrection story, compassion, forgiveness, love – advocates for human rights can strive to create a more inclusive and compassionate society where all individuals are treated with dignity and fairness.
