Lautoka-based Exodus Club members have been assisting needy families and under-privileged.

Recently the group assisted a family at Naikabula at the outskirts of the city.

The family comprises of elderly mother, Vishnu Banu, and her two wheelchair-bound sons Janendra and Kamal Sami. They had been neglected by their immediate family members.

“I have two sons,” Ms Banu said. “One has diabetes and cannot walk, and the other is crippled and is in a wheelchair fulltime,” she said.

“I am thankful to the group for assisting in our livelihoods.”

Club founder and president Josateki Labalaba said the group was made up of former inmates who were working hard to be absorbed back into society.

“This club is made up of former inmates who have respective trades,” he said.

“While they were serving their time inside, they made sure to grab something to assist them when they come out. The club has found some funding to get these jobs done, so the members can support their families.”

He said the group members clean home compounds and even bought some groceries for the family.

“We assisted them the past two years and things had changed a lot since then,” said Mr Labalaba. He urged people to assist their work and families like this that need assistance.

“We need people to have different views on those who need assistance.”

Meanwhile, Mr Labalaba is also the founder of the PYGMIES (Providing Young Generation Movement in Every Society) Youth Club which was established a few years ago to help create self-employment among youths.

The group had instigated a few projects from feeding the homeless, visiting families of inmates, and clean-up campaigns at Natokawaqa, Lautoka.
