Tailevu Try Scoring Hero Rates Skipper Cup Comp
The former Lelean Memorial School student dedicated the win against Nadi to his family in Daku Village.
Super sub Inoke Rokocati was the toast of the Tailevu side when he scored the winning try in the corner to seal their 2217 win over Nadi at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori, last Saturday.
“I was happy that the last attacking play and my first touch of the ball resulted in the try that guaranteed us the win,” he told SUNsports. “We were advised to patiently wait for our chance and to strike when the opportunity presents itself.” The 27-year-old Daku, Tailevu, native has a four-year contract with
Australian club Condamine.
“I’m currently on break from the Condamine club and I’ll be going back to Australia at the end of this month,” he said.
“I’m forever grateful to the coaching staff for letting me play for my province of Tailevu.”
Rokocati had initially begun playing for Daku and Tailevu before being scouted by the Condamine Rugby Club.
“Most of the players playing for Tailevu came through our provincial club games and three players made their debut against Nadi,” he said.
“In Australia, we only have two days of training, but we often train everyday playing in the Skipper Cup competition.”
Rokocati is hopeful that his rugby career in Australia flourishes.
“We are all blessed with our sporting talents but it’s the way it is utilised is important. That goes with hard work and determination,” he said.
“My advice to young people who play rugby that the Skipper Cup is a perfect pathway towards a professional rugby career.”
