Amajor upgrade and refurbishment works are expected at the Namaka Health Centre and Namaka Baby Clinic as part of Fiji Airports Limited community project.

Fiji Airports chief executive officer Mesake Nawari said it would be part of their corporate social responsibility.

The two health facilities come under the Ministry of Health and the Nadi Hospital Board of Visitors.

“Both facilities are in a dire state with multiple building-related issues, lack of reliable and clean water, and daily operational issues due to limited spaces,” Mr Nawari said.

“One of our values is community spirit and this is why we are involved.”

The cost of this refurbishment work is $600,000 and will take approximately 14 months to complete.

Fiji Airports will fund $250,000 while $100,000 will come from the Nadi Airport Charity Fund, sourced from the charity box at the Nadi International Airport departure.

Outbound passengers have been contributing to the charity chest over the years.

“Fiji Airports is engaging with our stakeholders at Nadi Airport and our vendors to support this community initiative to cover the remaining balance of $250,000,” said Mr Nawari.

“This is the start of our community projects and I encourage our stakeholders to join us in these projects as part of giving back to the communities we are part of.” Former Nadi Town Council Special Administrator Chair Lawrence Kumar said it was a great deal to assist such projects for the betterment of the community at large.
