More funding to raise profile of research project
The students will benefit significantly from this expansion as we seek solutions to unexpected changes in today’s world
The University of Fiji’s Centre for iTaukei Studies aims to secure funding to expand the Drua Research Project to the Mamanuca and Yasawa Islands. Interim Pro-Chancellor of the
University of Fiji Bhuwan Dutt said following continuous research on the Drua projects last year, the Centre for iTaukei Studies is now part of the Intangible Cultural Heritage Research.
It is facilitated by UNESCO and the Department of Culture, Heritage & Arts of the Ministry of iTaukei Affairs.
“The students will benefit significantly from this expansion as we seek solutions to unexpected changes in today’s world,” Mr Dutt said.
“Through community-based research, we are confident in finding better ways to mitigate future changes.”
Mr Dutt added that under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shaista Shameem, UF will head comfortably in the direction reflected in the university’s Strategic Plan 2022-2026.
“The plan marks the existence of the university over the years and projects the efforts of the Council, Senate, students, and administration towards progressive accomplishments over the next five years.”
He also acknowledged the Arya Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji for its vision and initiative in providing immense opportunities for aspiring students to pursue their career prospects.
“The school endeavours to continuously improve its programmes in response to the global need for Human Resources for Health and it is particularly focused on expanding its programme offerings and staff to cater to the growing demands locally as well as in the region,” he said.
“The Umanand Prasad School of Medical and Health Sciences strive to excel academically and will explore opportunities for postgraduate courses soon.”
