In a world filled with ever-changing values and beliefs, the role of a grandmother becomes even more significant.

This Mother’s Day we explore the profound impact of a grandmother who diligently imparts biblical knowledge to her children and grandchildren, fostering a strong foundation of faith, wisdom and love.

A mother of four and grandmother of three, Sofaia Koto believes her role as a spiritual guide is invaluable.

Whether it is observing religious holidays, participating in family prayers, or engaging in acts of service, Ms Koto said these traditions strengthen the bond between generations and reinforce the importance of biblical values in daily life. “A woman, mother and grandmother’s greatest gift lies in the love and acceptance that I extend to my children and grandchildren,” Ms Koto said graciously.

“It’s my duty to create a safe and nurturing environment where my children and grandchildren feel valued and cherished, mirroring the unconditional love that God bestows upon His children.

“I teach them the importance of forgiveness, compassion, and embracing one’s unique identity as a child of God.

The 50-year-old skillfully weaves narratives of courage, faith, and resilience, bringing biblical characters to life in the imaginations of her children and grandchildren.

“David also said to Solomon his son, “Be strong and courageous, and do the work. Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord God, my God, is with you. He will not fail you or forsake you until all the work for the service of the temple of the Lord is finished.”

She said that teaching children principles of behaviour as they mature would enable them to succeed via the right path in life.

Instilling biblical knowledge

verse “Teaching the Bible to children helps them to know God better and to have a relationship with Him. “The benefits for the children when they grow up is that they can live as children of God.

“If our children see the process of sanctification in our lives it encourages them and gives them a sense of security that we are being led by the Spirit of God and not our own whims.

“It’s pretty basic: When we honour Him, He honours us.

“We always tell the children stories of His faithfulness in our lives, His provision and blessings.

“Praying about decisions we need to make or for God’s guidance

shows them that we honour Him and want Him to direct our paths,” she said.

She also encouraged parents, especially mothers and soon-to-becoming mothers, to impart valuable life lessons and inspire a love for God’s word.
