The Cakaudrove women’s rugby team will leave no stones unturned in their promotion relegation clash against the experienced Tailevu side at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori, today.

Speaking to SUNsports yesterday, Cakaudrove head coach Ana Seru said their main target is to win and qualify for the Marama Championship.

“We want to play the best rugby teams that we can win,” Seru said. “This is the first time that women’s rugby side from Cakaudrove has gone up this far and the fans are really looking forward to see us at the top level.”

Seru said it would be an uphill battle for her side to play in three consecutive promotion relegation matches.

“Playing in the Marama Championship will open-up more opportunities for these players to be selected for the Fijian Drua and national women’s sevens and fifteens teams,” she said.

“It will also create more opportunity for women in the Northern Division to play rugby.”

Seru said her team would need to improve their discipline in these three promotion relegation matches.

“I have told the players not to lose concentration in the match against Tailevu,” she said.

“We’re trying our best for our women to be recognised in that level because most of the time we usually play grassroots rugby.” Seru said they hope to utilise the opportunity to get in the Marama Championship to develop rugby for women in their province.

“We hope there will be more training sessions, clinics and selection

of these women to be part of the Fiji national teams,” she said.

Seru has urged all people from Cakaudrove living in Suva, Nasinu and Nausori to turn up in numbers at Ratu Cakobau Park to cheer them on.

Kadavu and Cakaudrove are the two top teams from the Royal Tea Ranadi Cup competition.
