THE state of bilateral relations between Cuba and Fiji were among the many issues discussed during Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama’s meeting with Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez.

Mr Bainimarama is visiting Cuba and was received by Mr Diaz Canel yesterday.

“During the cordial meeting, both leaders exchanged about the good state of bilateral relations and the strengthening of economic and co-operation ties,” a statement from the Cuban government stated.

Mr Díaz-Canel also expressed Cuba’s commitment to continue contributing to the training of human resources in the country.

He also highlighted that the common challenge faced by both nations was climate change and the impact of the “meteorological phenomena”.

Mr Bainimarama is leading a delegation that includes permanent secretary of the Office of the Prime Minister Yogesh Jitendra Karan and Fiji’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations ambassador Satyendra Prasad.

Meanwhile, Mr Bainimarama also met Fijian medical students studying at the Latin American School for Medicine in Havana.

He will also visit the Colonial Havana Cohiba Cigar Factory and the National Institute for Sports, Physical Education and Recreation centre.
