Teachers told to ‘control temper’

- By ANISH CHAND

“WE are still running our schools like dictators and our children have a lot of fear.”

Education Ministry deputy secretary Timoci Bure said this to heads of schools in Rakiraki yesterday as he asked them to change how they conducted themselves in classrooms.

“We are not giving the students the liberty for them to explore their full potential,” he said.

“They need to see the facilitating teacher, the smiling teacher so that they will not hesitate to ask questions.”

He said the ministry had a zero-tolerance on corporal punishment.

“Control your temper and make sure you walk into the school with a good heart.

“Don’t drink too much kava because you will easily lose your temper when you come to school.”
