Survivor: Don’t wait

- By VILIMAINA NAQELEVUKI

DO not wait until the last minute if you know there are unusual changes in your breasts which you need to get checked.

This is the plea of 61-year-old cancer survivor Teresia Tokona, who was recently diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer.

She noticed changes on her breast after retiring from work six years ago.

“For six years I was looking for a remedy thinking it was only a boil but I was wrong,” she said.

“I only knew it was serious when I visited the hospital this year, so I had surgery. I was lucky enough to get it removed.”

Ms Tokona said after 84 days of chemotherapy she had started to recover.

“My husband stood by my side throughout this journey so I am thankful to him for his never-ending support and for never ever leaving my side, that was important.

“To all the ladies both young and old, please get checked, it’s better to have yourself diagnosed early so that you can be provided with the best possible treatment.”
