WAF: Water safe to drink

- By VILIMAINA NAQELEVUKI

THE Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) says it has ascertained that the change in taste and odour of water in parts of the Nausori area was a result of the heavy rain last weekend.

In a statement WAF said because of the weather, most debris, mineral, slimy soil and dissolved metals were received into the water treatment facility.

“WAF has successfully addressed the alleged kerosene-like odour that was experienced by certain customers in the Nausori, Nakasi, Muanikoso and Waila areas,” the authority said.

“All water quality parameters tested, conducted both on Sunday (29/09) and Monday (30/09) are well within the Fiji National Drinking Water Quality Standards.

“The authority would like to confirm that no form or substance of kerosene was found in the water supply system, this was evident in the numerous water quality tests that were performed by WAF laboratory specialists.”

WAF is reassuring its customers that the water supply supplied from all its water treatment plants around Fiji is safe for human consumption.
