Happy employees’ more profits
HAPPY employees lead to happy customers and more profits. These were the words of Rosy Heart's director Mahendran Nair as the company celebrates its 20th anniversary.
Looking back Mr Nair says the company would not have been where it is today without its hardworking and dedicated staff members.
He said the management at Rosy Hearts had always made sure that staff members were well looked after and this was what kept them going over the years.
"We try and keep our staff happy. Our pay is above the guideline with the staff members getting all the benefits expected from us," Mr Nair said.
"All these things count when you run a business.
“When you have a happy staff you will have a good business if you don't then you won't have good and quality products."
Mr Nair says 95 per cent of the employees are women adding they always try to assist women in finding employment.
"All our branch managers are women except our Nadi branch. What we are trying to do is promote ladies in the workforce.”
While every business has their own fair share of challenges he said theirs was no different from the rest.
"The main problem was the increasing rent, every two years it increases by 10 to 15 per cent but the good news is we don't like to increase our cake prices.
"Our cake prices have been consistent for the past five to six years."
He said the other challenge they faced was staff turnover.
"Some people come in and we train them and then they have family problems and run away so we have to be a little careful in employing people like that."
Apart from looking after their staff members well he says they also make sure they manage their finances properly — another aspect of running a successful business.
While there are plans to venture into other businesses in the future, in the meantime he says they are looking forward to the day they would open their Labasa shop.
"Apart from that we would like to advise our customers that we will be moving office from Centrepoint to Wainivula Rd in Caubati.
"Our office and storage will be there and we will also expand our business to hospitality equipment and other staff that we have in line."
