Women’s contribution in the maritime sector

IN recognising the valuable contribution of women in the maritime community, this year's World Maritime Day theme resonates well and serves as an opportunity to continue raising awareness on the importance of gender equality, in line with the UN SDGs.

It is encouraging to know there are so many women in Fiji who have undertaken some form of employment in the sector and have made tremendous contribution one way or another. The endorsement of the first ever Regional Strategy for Pacific Women In Maritime (2020-024) at the recent Fourth Regional Transport and Energy Minister's meeting in Apia last month, reaffirmed our leaders commitment and support towards the progress and advancement of women in maritime.

Women In Maritime (Fiji) will continue to complement, supplement and link the work being done in harnessing and supporting leadership, create more visibility for women in maritime and improve capacity.
