Golf boost
IT will be prizes galore at the Lautoka Golf Club course today with an 18 holes stroke event sponsored by club trustees chairman, Raymond Singh alongside businessman and former Lautoka Football Association president Sanjay Prasad.
“The competition is a prelude to the all important club championship that will be played later this month,” Singh said.
Prasad has pitched in to reward the winners of the junior golfers’ category with a host of novelty prizes.
“The fierce battle in each of the respective categories will see top scores being the order of the day.”
Top contenders in the tournament include the likes of Suren Pillay, Prem Chand, Asish Kumar, James Krishna, Bobby Reddy, Lawrence Naidu, Manwal Kumar, Anthony John, Vinesh Murthi, and Tevita Drauniniu.
Gaffar Ali will spearhead the B-grade challenge alongside Praveer Chand, Senitiki Cakau, Papi Singh, Chandar Shekar, Josese Wara, Richard Eyre, Anil Kumar, Dr Vimal Murthi, Pritam Singh, Vikash Chand, Daven Mudaliar, Anil Prasad, Dinesh Narayan and Mohd Imtiyaz.
Newcomer Sanjay Raj will lead the C-grade charge with Bill Gardiner, Wiliki Takiveikata, Shalendra Prasad, Bipul Chandra, Chong Lee, Daniel Kumar, Navi Vakaruru, Subhash Chand and Dr Ganesh Chand.
Alex Singh is the hot favourite in the junior golfers’ category with Jayden Dau, Steven Leger and Jay Meghj.
Tee off will be from 12.30pm to 1.30pm. Entry fees is $15, said Singh.
Meanwhile, the club is getting to be a favourite stop for toursists and people visiting Lautoka.
This is because of its location and the beautiful scenery overlooking Lautoka City and the Yasawa Group and Mamanuca Group.
The club is also among the oldest clubs in Fiji having its history dating back to the Colonial Sugar Refining Company (CSR) which began operations in Fiji in 1880.
