7s rugby

-

WHILE we all agree our sevens campaign must now be on track to focus on the World Rugby Sevens Series and the 2021 Olympics, there is one critical analysis that we need not forget.

Most sevens players that have switched back to 15s rugby have found it hard to return to sevens rugby.

If you look at leading sevens rugby nations such as NZ and South Africa most of their sevens players do not get involved in fifteens rugby and there are two major reasons, one as mentioned, the adaptation and switch back process and secondly 15s has a higher risk of player injuries.

With all of the above and taking into account that we are third in the world of sevens going into the next series, we should look at other alternatives like continue with four to five good sevens tournaments and play consistent sevens starting with the Marist 7s and ending with a club sevens tournament where we pick a team from each town and city.

Our focus is sevens and our goal is the Olympics, let’s continue to talanoa and think the best as time is of the essence.

The question is what happens after the Skipper Cup?

Is our focus only on this, or ahead long term and breathing and living sevens action right up to the Olympics?

Toso sevens, toso, we should be the first pro-coronavirus to start the campaign on the road to Tokyo 2021 just the way Viti the world should see.

Think, make and innovate, talanoa, talanoa, and lots of veilomani reminds me of our joka guru in sevens Ratu Peni.
