Back to school

-

I WOULD like to take this opportunity to thank our Government for sending us back to school for Term 2 after a long school holiday because of the coronavirus. This will remain in our history as one of the longest school holidays. I’m happy to return to my boarding school to meet my peers and teachers but will miss my family and friends in Votualevu, Nadi.

My pledge to our Government and relevant stakeholders to provide genuine support and assistance to myself and other peers who are facing financial difficulties in the months ahead.

My best wishes to all the students from ECE Level to Year 11 including teachers and support staff who are starting next week.

QVS Year 10 (Rewa House) Votualevu, Nadi where the nation is headed.

Recently Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama opened a nursing station in Yasawa Islands, spread over a vast expanse of the blue Pacific Ocean and to the North West of Viti Levu.

These isolated islands are the first to face the brunt of cyclones, drought and shortage of drinking water.

For any major health services they have to travel to Lautoka.

Therefore, the opening of this nursing station is a great boon to the people of Yasawa.

Secondly, the opening of the water treatment plant in Tailevu to serve the neighbouring villages and the community there is an example of loving care for all Fijians.

Water is essential to life and healthy living. Carting water for the daily needs will now become a thing of the past. What a joy the people must be experiencing!

Thirdly, it was such a delight to see the prime minister scattering rice seedlings in a rice farm in Vunivau, Bua, Vanua Levu. This gesture was to encourage rice farmers to produce more rice to meet our local demands.

Rice harvesters were also provided (donation from China) to assist some two hundred rice farmers.

This technology will certainly help speed up harvesting.

Thus saving paddy from getting damaged because of climatic conditions.

Fourthly, the opening of an ultra-modern fire station by the prime minister in a densely populated Nakasi area is another milestone in protecting the interests and lives of people living in that area.

Further, he elucidated the variety of roles National Fire Authority plays in serving the community. It is remarkable indeed.
