ONE reads with interest, if not surprise, the article entitled drugs worth $40 million destroyed (FT 29/06).

If that was the value from raids conducted in one area over a few days, then this does raise another question. Is marijuana a multimillion dollar business as there are possibly many more farms which are undiscovered not just on Kadavu but in other parts of the country?

Even worse, does this mean that there is a high demand among local consumers? All in all, one hopes that communities and individuals support our national authorities and community leaders in efforts to combat this illegal trade.

It may mean increased income for some but brings about many social ills.
