IT is disturbing to read Jan Nissar of NSW Australia suggesting that SODELPA’s attempts at “Unity talks” among Fiji’s chiefs be considered by him as “too many chiefs, and not enough Indians”. Obviously by someone living outside Fiji, and doing armchair politics –– while sitting cosy in Australia.

As he asked, yes sir, it is unreasonable for a Australian citizen to judge Fiji citizens on our democratic processes; or any indigenous citizens about how they work out unifying their country.

Australia, where he sits and judges from, is most certainly not known for its historical “unity talks” with its indigenous Aboriginal leaders, is it; nor its non racist treatment of its own indigenous when it comes to political decisions. So, in fairness, why not consider this first –– his own backyard mess and the log in his own eye, before pointing a finger at SODELPA or Fiji citizens trying to improve their country.

Otherwise, it appears patronising and colonial. And no, we don’t value your opinion from an armchair in Australia.

Let’s hope the authorities do ponder on the operating hours when it resumes. I believe clubbing until the wee hours of the morning will only invite problems.

Now we have a reason as well. COVID might not like it. We welcome the “new normal”.
