COVID-19 struggles

THE struggle that many Fijians are going through is really painful.

Job losses through terminatio­n and reduced wages through reduced hours have made many lives difficult.

Some families face a bleak future as the days unfold and parents who have children have a cloud hanging over their ability to send their child to school.

Our daily newspaper has been publishing stories about families who are struggling to meet their daily needs as the unemployme­nt rate soars. I was touched by three articles. One by Siteri Sauvakacol­o titled “Family hit by crisis”, the other one by Navnesh Reddy titled “Elderly woman struggles alone” and the last one by Serafina Silaitoga titled “Have a heart, McGoon pleads”. I must admit that these struggles are genuine and have been covered well by The Fiji Times and like those other families who have been assisted by good Samaritans, I’m positive that these Fijians will receive assistance.
