A jersey cow with reservations about going through a slaughterhouse made an unsuccessful bid for freedom yesterday in a three-quarter mile swim. While she was led to the gate at Leyland's abattoir soon after midday, the cow broke loose and jumped into the Tamavua River. She swam to the river mouth, into the Suva Bay and past the Royal Suva Yachts Club. She later got stuck
