- By SHIRAZ KASIM

SARU Dragons rugby league team is confident of cementing a place in the national playoffs as the side prepares to face BTS Nadroga Roosters in round seven of the Fiji National Rugby League's 2020 Vodafone Cup Nadi/ Lautoka zone competition.

The side, after a year's absence, has been the surprise package in the rugby league circles and remains in the hunt for top honours after amassing four wins, a 24-10 loss to former Vodafone Cup winners, Sabeto Roosters in round four and managing a plucky 14all draw against Ravoravo Rabbitohs in its first match, so far.

Team manager Seremaia Koroi said the team was in high spirits after a stellar effort during the six rounds that had been completed.

"The whole community is rallying behind the team in its quest for glory this year," he said.

"We are treating each match as a final and give respect to all the teams participating in the Nadi/Lautoka zone. Emphasis is always on discipline and the basics of rugby league."

The 32-year-old has downplayed the annihilation inflicted on Yasawa Saints last week.

"We have forgotten about that huge win. I have reminded the boys not to be carried away with the inflated score line.

"We want to start again because last week's win is history now."

The Matacaucau, Tailevu native with maternal links to Navutu, Navuakece in Naitasiri said while the result last week was expected, it exposed certain areas that needed rectifying before tackling bigger teams.

"We want to improve and crack that 62 points scored last week. The morale in the team is high and we look forward to the match against a powerful team.

"We will do the talking on the field of play."

Netava Rarokoliwa is expected to captain the side.

The Tavakubu, Lautoka based rugby league team is currently third in the 2020 Vodafone Cup's Maroon zone; Sabeto Village teams, Sabeto Roosters lead the point table and in hot pursuit is the Ravoravo Rabbitohs rugby league team.

Saru Dragons rugby league team will battle hosts, BTS Nadroga Roosters, which defeated Lautoka's Namoli West Tigers 30-16 in round six.

Round seven will be held next Wednesday at Lawaqa Park, Sigatoka. Ravoravo Rabbitohs is the defending champions of the Vodafone Cup.
