- By ZANZEER SINGH

VETERAN Rajen Singh is the top seed for the postponed 2019 season-closing 18 holes stroke event which will now be played at the Fiji Sugar Corporation Rarawai course in Ba on Sunday.

Singh helped the Western Division team defeat East 35-12 in the annual zonal challenge sponsored by Vuksich and Borich at the Lautoka Golf Club course last Sunday.

He will face stiff competition from players such as national rep Asish Chand and in-form Raven Kumar.

Ba Golf Club vice-captain Vikrant Chandra said the 2019 season closing event was supposed to be played earlier this year but had to be postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Chandra said Coniquip International which was based in Lautoka and one of Fiji’s leading industrial supplies company had stepped up to sponsor the event. He said the 2020 Club Championship play-off would be held along with the season closing event.

“We expect a full house on Sunday because the tournament will also serve as the qualifiers for the club championship,” Chandra said.

“The winners of each grade in the club championship are regarded as season’s champions with their names engraved on the honour’s board. Only the fully financial members will be eligible to participate in the club championship.

“For the season closing tournament members from other clubs are most welcome to participate. This will serve as the buildup to the big RC Manubhai Ba Open Championship next month.”

Sunday’s event will tee-off at 11.30am.
