- By NOA BIUDOLE

THE 2020 Courts IDC started with a bang which included two major upsets, a thrashing and a red card to kick off the annual event and pave the way for an exciting fiveday tournament.

Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel said it was the best possible start and the football displayed was one football fans would be fond of.

“The Nasinu and Navua presidents said they would cause upsets and they did, beating the host city and the defending champion,” Patel said at the ANZ Stadium yesterday.

“This is the kind of games that football lovers love.”

Patel said the results of day one had set an exciting platform for day two of pool play.

“The results have created more excitement as we go forward into pool play.”

Day one of the tournament hit the ground running with Nasinu causing the first upset of the day beating one of the favourites and neighbours Suva 1-0.

In simulated fashion, Navua also sent the crowd into a frenzy when they defeated defending champion Labasa 1-0.

In the third match, another tournament favourite Ba, managed to hold on to a 2-2 draw against Nadi after they had a player sent off.

In the last game at the ANZ Stadium last night Lautoka and Rewa drew 1-1.

In the senior division competition held at the Uprising Beach Resort Sports Complex in Pacific Harbour, Dreketi and Seaqaqa played to a nil-all draw, Tailevu Naitasiri beat Rakiraki 2-0, while Nadroga thrashed Nadogo 11-3.
