New CSO to set up link
A NEW civil society organisation will be working with the National Disaster Management Office in establishing a more efficient line of communication between Government and relevant stakeholders in disaster management.
Communicating with Disaster Affected Communities (CDAC) Network Fiji consultant Joeli Cawaki says they would also engage community workers and civil society organisations to set up the line of communication.
“Basically, we are an organisation that works in every level, right from the national level right down to the community level,” he said.
“We are a body with 30 international organisations, most of which operate out of Africa. This is the first time they are in Fiji.”
He said their work would focus on providing a link for various stakeholders in national disaster management.
“We want to provide the linkage from the community right up to the national level. We will be based out of the NDMO so we will be working closely with them as well.
“The important aspect for us is communication.
“We want to put together an end to end national disaster management communication platform in terms of the voice, the data, the print, the brochures, the before, during and after of the response plan.
“We want to see how the standardised processes of communication work.
“Our communities have been overloaded with information and there are different organisations coming in with different templates and we would like to see a harmonisation of these templates of reporting so that it becomes a standardised process that we would like to see.”
