Rest facilities for bay lookout
RESTING facilities would soon be built at the popular sightseeing area overlooking Savusavu Bay.
The facilities will be funded by the US government under a project spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Savusavu.
In reaffirming their commitment, US ambassador to Fiji Joseph Cella visited the area last week with landowners from Urata Village and Rotarians where he planted a tree.
The project, he said would benefit the tourism industry and the local community as well.
“It was great building and fortifying bridges with the entrepreneurs and community members who are committed to growing opportunities in the North,” he said.
“Through such ongoing engagements, we will work to convert challenges into opportunities and ultimately, success.
“The United States is proud to partner with the people and organisations of Vanua Levu for a more prosperous future and it is always a delight to be in the midst of the unique and diverse natural beauty of Vanua Levu.”
Accompanied by his colleagues from USAID, Peace Corps and the Political/Economic Section of the embassy, Mr Cella also visited the KokoMana chocolate factory in Savusavu to learn about the tree to bar cacao process.
The company, KokoMana, was awarded a sub-grant from NatureFiji which received a US-funded $40,000 grant to develop sustainable tourism.
Mr Cella also met the Savusavu Chamber of Commerce and Labasa Chamber of Commerce to discuss the development of respective towns.
