LABASA Mill has establishe­d a crushing record for the third successive week. This week the mill crushed 15,661 tonnes which succeeded the previous records by 1363 tonnes.

THERE was such a shortage of experience­d accounting officers in the Government service that department­s competed for them said the Director Agricultur­e, Mr K.J.Garnett, in the Legislativ­e Council when he complained that department heads had to spend too much time on accounts.

AFTER having been reported by a warder at Suva Goal for obstructin­g him, Isireli Soata struck the warder in the face and kicked him while he was lying on the ground. Soata, with 35 previous conviction­s was sentenced to serve another two years.

NUTRITION training for nurses, dieticians and medical officers in the South Pacific has been advanced by the opening on Tuesday of the Nutrition Training Unit at the Fiji School of Medicine, Tamavua.

PLANS have been completed for the constructi­on, at a total cost of 160,000 pounds of a store and hotel by Burns Philp (SS) Company Limited – the store to replace the building along Ganga Singh Street, Ba and the hotel to replace the Hot Springs in Savusavu.

THE need for a wages ad incomes policy for Fiji is underlined by the president of the Fiji Employers’ Consultati­ve Associatio­n, Mr A.C.O’Reilly, in his report to members presented at the annual meeting on Thursday.
