Fuli looks ahead
THE Fijiana 7s team is looking forward to more local tournaments as they prepare for the 2021 Olympic Games.
Coach Saiasi Fuli said they had a positive turnaround during the festive season.
“We had a positive turnaround during the festive season, meaning we only rested for two days in between Christmas, Boxing Day, New Year’s Eve and the first day,” he said.
“We continued to train and camp and also did rehabs for our injured girls.
“January and February will be a very challenging period for the girls as we will increase the notch in terms of our training load and work towards our core skills and fitness.
“So far so good as we continue to align our training to the revised program set for this year which is the limited number of tournaments, the local 7s series to be hosted by Fiji Rugby Union, and the other local 7s tournaments such as Marist and Nawaka.
“This will help build our team’s preparation and work towards the right combination as we march forward towards the Olympics in Tokyo.”
As they prepare for the first local Super 7s Series the Fijiana team will field two teams.
“I’m very thankful for the great initiative by the Fiji Rugby Union.
“This program will enable us to gauge, monitor and will be the best selection tool for us moving forward towards the Olympic Games in Tokyo. This will also give a timely opportunity to our Fijiana 7s side to challenge themselves against some of the top women’s clubs in the country.”
