‘Unfair’ distribution of rations

- By SERAFINA SILAITOGA

SOME STC Yasa affected families in the Northern Division are disappointed with the distribution of food rations describing it as “unfair”.

Villagers in Bua have raised their concerns about some families missing out and not receiving food ration from Government.

Mere Makeleni of Bua Lomanikoro claimed she had only received the ration once while some neighbours had received it twice.

“This is unfair and I hope the organisers would look into these issues because some families who deserve the ration have missed out,” she claimed.

“We have been called back to the village today (Wednesday) to collect the second round of ration but when we got here, the village headman told us that the dates have changed.

“We are paying $40 to hire a carrier from our farm and return to the village and we hope that better organising is done so we do not have to spend so much money for nothing.”

Another villager, Salote Leba, said she received two packs of food.

“I have no problem because I have received both rounds of food ration while some families have not.”

Inia Lovolovo, another villager whose house was damaged by the cyclone, said he had only received the ration once.

Village headman Ratu Viliame Tagivetaua said all families had received the first round of ration while the second round had only covered some families.

Acting Commissioner Northern Division Uraia Rainima said they had put aside food rations for families who missed out in the last distribution.

He said everyone affected by the cyclone would be assisted.
