Super 7s time

THE Fiji Rugby Union is calling on rugby fans to visit Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka today and tomorrow for the start of the inaugural Super 7s Series.

FRU chief executive officer John O'Connor said all preparatio­ns had been done for what was expected to be blockbusti­ng sevens rugby action for Fijians during this COVID-19 pandemic.

"The stage is set for the first ever Fiji Rugby Super 7s Series which kicks off at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

"Fiji Rugby has been working closely with the participat­ing teams to ensure that the tournament is run smoothly as the implementa­tion is based on the HSBC World 7s Series."

He said the cost of tickets had been made affordable too.

"This level of competitio­n is one the fans will not want to miss. They have the opportunit­y to watch the Fiji men's and women's 7s squad members playing for their respective clubs".

This weekend's tournament is the first leg of the series. O'Connor said 16 men's teams and four women's teams, the Mt Masada, Mt Camel, Striders and Seahawks, would compete this weekend. The Fijiana 7s players will form two teams and play in their round robin pool games. The teams will play round robin matches with the top two to face off in the final. The other two teams will fight for third and fourth places, respective­ly."

All pool games will be completed today. Tickets cost $10 for grandstand and $5 embankment­s.

Men's pools: Pool A: Tabadamu, Police White, BLK Stallions, Eastern Saints. Pool B: Police Blue, Raiwasa Taveuni, Fire, Wadigi Salvo. Pool C: FDS Barbarians, Rt Felise, Warden, Yamacia. Pool D: Uluinakau, Army, Dominion Brothers, Nawaka.
