Namosi relies on supporters
NAMOSI Rugby Union is rallying support from its fans to flock into Thomson Park in Navua Town tomorrow for the start of the 2021 rugby season.
The union, which surprised the country in the past season by dethroning traditional FarebrotherSullivan Trophy champion Nadroga, starts its 15s campaign with a preliminary round this weekend.
“It is our hit-out for the season to start our rugby campaign,” NRU chairman Alevio Turaganivalu said.
“While some of our clubs and players would be occupied in this weekend’s Fiji Bitter Marist 7s tournament, we are starting our season with three matches where six teams would compete.
“There has been a lot of feedbacks from clubs on their preparation and we anticipate a good start with good, tough and well orchestrated rugby at Thomson Park.”
The union has villagebased teams whose members had been taking to the hills in the highlands during training sessions.
Turaga said an improvement in competition standard was expected because of feedbacks received by union officials in the enthusiasm, dedication and commitments of teams in preparing for the start of the season.
“We thank the clubs, village elders and family members for their support. Your dedication will result in a fruitful season for us this year.”
Clubs are requested to pay their affiliation fees before the season proper starts on April 3.
