Clean and safe water supply for school

- By ABISHEK CHAND

THE Nasavusavu School for Special Education now has access to safe and clean drinking water after the Bank South Pacific (BSP) gave a water tank and a five-tap handwashing station with a dedicated water purification filter.

According to a statement from the bank this was through its Savusavu Branch Community Project.

BSP general manager retail, Ravindra Singh said the handover was a demonstration of the bank’s support for inclusive education which was by enabling children with special needs to have access to safe and clean drinking water while learning at school.

“Our Savusavu branch identified this school as one that was in need of assistance after learning about the sanitation challenges these children faced with having only one tap and that the risk of unclean tap water,” he said.

“I am pleased to report that the five tap handwashing station in its own dedicated shaded area has also served as a teaching aid allowing students to receive a practical lesson on the proper hand washing steps as a COVID-19 safety measure which will serve them well, beyond the classroom.”

BSP stated the Savusavu branch staff had clocked in their volunteer hours to help complete the project.

Branch manager Vineeta Prasad said the Savusavu team was involved in some of the construction work and the installation of both the water tank and handwashing station.

BSP has re-invested more than $10 million back into Fiji since 2010, as part of their various programs which gave back to the community.
