Call to sack PSC, remove Mohan
THE Fiji Public Service Association (FPSA) has called for the sacking of the Public Service Commission (PSC), including the removal of chairman Vishnu Mohan, who lives overseas.
FPSA general secretary Rajeshwar Singh said this was one of the major resolutions at its recent annual general meeting where members accused the PSC of being “incompetent”.
He said there had been a “serious deterioration of decision-making capabilities by the Public Service Commission” in recent years.
“A case in point is that a draft Collective Agreement has been languishing with the PSC and the Ministry of Civil Service and despite a dispute on this matter filed in the Arbitration Court, no action has been forthcoming from the commission or the ministry,” Mr Singh said.
He said the FPSA also had an issue with the PSC’s failure to “control and discipline the offending permanent secretaries”.
“We submitted to the PSC a dossier for serious misconduct of a permanent secretary bordering on criminal offences which has remained unanswered for the last five months.
“This is a serious indictment of their performance. “We call on Government to appoint five new and qualified Fiji resident persons with relevant qualifications and experience in public service matters as new commissioners.”
Mr Singh said the new commissioners should introduce and maintain an effective and high calibre of decisionmaking processes for the Fiji Civil Service.
When contacted, PSC chairman Mr Mohan told this newspaper he had no comments to make. Secretary to the Constitutional Officers Commission, Sharvada Sharma, did not respond to emails on the concerns raised by the FPSA when this edition went to press.
