- ■ FIJI FA MEDIA

THE Tailevu Naitasiri football side proved too strong for the Northland Tailevu side in the Digicel U16 Girls Youth League last weekend.

They thrashed Northland Tailevu 13-0 to start their campaign on a high note.

Striker Seruwaia Laulaba was in form scoring six goals while Leba Lute scored a hat-trick. Marlani Laqere, Salacieli Sautobo and Taina Buwai scored a goal each and Taufa Rabua scored a double.

In the other game the Lami U16 side defeated Suva 2-1. Elonia Grace scored twice for Lami while Lavenia Senikau scored for Suva.

Lami coach Fazeelat Farzana Khan was impressed with the performance of her team.

“I am very happy with the result because from the 18 players we have registered none of them played football before and winning the first match is something big for us,” said Khan.

Khan said they had learnt a lot from the first match.

“We have a lot to do as we have made some mistakes as the girls are still learning to play football,” said Khan.

“We will go back on the white board and iron out our mistakes and come out more prepared in our next game.”

She said the girls needed to get into the basics of football.

“The girls will have to learn to hold on to their positions as they still are new to football but I am sure they will get into the game as it progresses. The win is a good motivation for the girls,” she added.

Suva coach Savneel Prasad was also impressed with the performance of his side despite the loss.

“Actually I am not disappointed with the defeat as we have learnt a lot from our first match,” said Prasad.

“We did not have enough time to prepare but I am impressed with the way the girls played today (Saturday).”

Meanwhile Rewa won by default against Nasinu. Nasinu turned up with six players which forced the referee to award the match to Rewa. In the western zone Ba recorded a 20-nil win against Lautoka while other matches were postponed.
