Late comeback helps Cuvu win on home ground
CUVU made a second half comeback to defeat Wairabetia 2-1 in the Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji National Sports Wing Easter Tournament at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka yesterday.
Wairabetia scored first through Anushal Kumar in the first spell while Cuvu hit back in the second spell through Nitulesh Mali and
Romit Kumar. Rewa guided by district coach Rodrick Singh and with the inclusion of rep players Madhwan Gounder and Patrick Joseph defeated Nadroga 3-0.
Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji National Sports Wing secretary Jyotish Praveen Singh said 18 teams were part of the open division and eight teams had registered for the masters category.
Singh said Navua and Rewa with defending champion Labasa are favourites for the open division.
“All teams have prepared well for the tournament,” he said.
“Valley, a team from Sigatoka, has entered the tournament for the first time. The open division winner will receive $1000 together with the late Jimmy Ram Pratap Trophy which has been donated by Suresh Pratap of Pratap Civil and Asphalt Quarries Ltd.
“The tournament was supposed to be held at Tuva, in Sigatoka but then we got help from Mali Pest Control to shift the tournament to Lawaqa Park.”
The quarter-finals will be held tomorrow and the semi-finals and final will be held on Monday.
