Big plans for little town
KOROVOU is strategically situated because of its close proximity to Nausori Town and shipping and airport services.
This, according to Local Government Minister Premila Kumar.
She made the comment while opening the Korovou New Town Development Stakeholder Workshop recently.
Mrs Kumar said Korovou was part of Government’s New Town Development Program under its 5-year and 20year national development plan.
“With the assistance of the Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources, we have successfully acquired two leases, one which is the 10-acre site adjacent to the market and the 40-acre site, the extension to the existing Korovou trading centre,” she said.
“Korovou has the unique advantage of being strategically situated.
“It is only 31 kilometres from Nausori.
“Korovou is known not only for Fiji’s dairy industry but also for Natovi Jetty, a port used by ferries to Ovalau, Vanua Levu and other destinations. Korovou also has readily available land to allow extensions and development and that too in a taxfree zone.”
She said the Tailevu Province “needs amenities and diversified trading activities and new businesses.”
“The projects we’re embarking on aim at enhancing socio-economic activities in Korovou, with its intention to incorporate mixed land use development ranging from residential, commercial, industrial, civic development that includes a new market, bus station, carrier, taxi stands, public amenities that include a riverside park development project.”
