New $750k eatery opens in Sugar City

- By SITERI SAUVAKACOLO

THE city of Lautoka came alive with the recent opening of Classic Café – an eatery that has opened its doors to cater for food lovers in the Sugar City and visitors alike.

Located at Nasoki St is the latest $750,000 investment of the Classic Buses Ltd which they hoped would satisfy the needs of customers who loved treating their appetites in eateries.

Cafe manager Munisha Raj said the cafe was officially opened on March 1 and had since then been attracting customers from Lautoka and its neighbouring areas.

“We officially opened our doors in March as Lautoka did not have this kind of eatery, so the director planned to open one here,” Ms Raj said.

“This plan has been in the system for a long time. The directors have always been into the bus industry and as well as the Mamanuca Express, which is heavily into the tourism industry.

“Now that tourism is down, this is something they can always look at.”

The high-end cafe can accommodate up to 200 people as well as two private rooms which would be hired free for families and working people who may want to host special events.

“It’s a friendly place where you can come and enjoy.

“The two private rooms are both free of charge and can be hired by groups or families hoping to treat their loved ones to a birthday or anniversary it’s all here for you, you can always purchase your food and drinks and spend them in these rooms and there is no time limit for that.

“Our response has been quite good and we have been going quite well at the moment.

“We do have our social media sites on Facebook and Instagram where people can view the different range of foods we have on offer.”

Ms Raj said they also believed in local fresh range of food and this ranges from freshly squeezed juices to fresh coffees, fresh local foods and anything they would love to have.

She said the eatery also had its own pastry department, where people could purchase cakes when hosting special functions.

“We have a variety of dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner and our opening hours are Monday to Wednesday from 8am to 8pm and Thursday to Sunday is from 8am to 10pm.”

The eatery also offers a free car parking space for customers.

The company currently employs a total of 23 people and the majority were from those who lost their jobs in the tourism industry as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Classic Cafe has a range of everything you and your family love all on offer at breakfast, lunch or dinner and it’s located right here on 20 Nasoki St in Lautoka.
