Huge support for awards

- By JALE DAUCAKACAKA

A RECORD number of entries have been received ahead of the Fiji Performing Rights Association (FPRA) Music Awards next month.

Fiji Performing Rights Association director Seru Serevi said he was happy to see an overwhelming response from musicians in regards to nominations for the awards.

“It’s really amazing to see this sort of response as we gear up for the FPRA Music Awards because this year’s event will honour local artists’ work for the years 2019 and 2020 as last year’s event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic as well as lack of sponsorship,” he said.

Serevi said after the cancellation of last year’s event, organisers were expected to make up for it in a big way this time around.

“It’s a stage where we bring in our artists, especially the new ones, and honour their work and celebrate their hard work. It’s a time where musicians come and enjoy with the public their achievements so it’s really a night of celebration.”

The FPRA Music Awards will be held over two days next month with the 2020 awards on May 7 and the 2021 awards will be held the following day at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Suva.

Prizes will be awarded in 10 categories including “most popular song”, “most popular music video”, and “artist of the year”, “best gospel song and best composition”.

Tickets for the event are selling for $100 each for the main event on Saturday and are available at the FPRA office at 66 MacGregor Rd in Suva.
