Youths lend helping hand

- By JALE DAUCAKACAKA

YOUTHS at Saioni Methodist Church in Nasinu have taken a proactive approach to assist students in the community by providing educational material for their studies.

Youth leader Saliceni Leleca said for the past six weeks, the youths had been using the church’s technological equipment to print and distribute worksheets for Years 1 to 13 provided by the Ministry of Education.

“Since most of the internet shops are closed, and not all children come from families that can afford to print these study materials, we decided to provide it for them,” he said.

He said about 200 students in the community received the worksheets as schools remained closed because of the COVID-19 situation in the country.

“This program is very important for students as it allows them to access the study resources that are provided by the ministry and ensure that they are up to date with their studies.”

Schools nationwide remain closed following discussions between the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Health and Medical Services.

“The ministry will continue to make available a number of supplementary learning resources to keep our children engaged in their learning environment,” a ministry statement read.

“Worksheets will continue to be made available on the ministry’s website and the LearningHUB, educational video programs will continue to be aired on Walesi’s Education Channel 9 and radio lessons will continue to be broadcasted on FBC Radio Fiji One and Radio Fiji Two on weekdays.”
