DCL to consider work options
DENARAU Corporation Ltd (DCL) may consider employment to only vaccinated staff members once borders reopened and international travel recommenced, says DCL general manager Nezbitt Hazelman.
In a statement released by the corporate body of Denarau Island, Mr Hazelman said it fully supports and endorses the Fijian Government’s COVID-19 response and containment efforts driven by the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) and Ministry of Commerce, Trade, Tourism and Transport (MCTTT).
“The only approach towards reopening the borders and allowing international travel to recommence is by ensuring that we all receive the vaccination,” he said.
He said DCL unconditionally supports the Fijian Government’s COVID-19 containment and vaccination campaign towards herd immunity.
“80 per cent vaccination of the targeted population is the benchmark.”
He said all the “business and tourism get ready protocols” defined by the MHMS and the MCTTT were implemented and updated advisories were circulated to all stakeholders to ensure compliance and safety of all workers, residents and visitors.
He said the reopening of Fiji’s borders is vitally important in the re-engagement of employment and associated income opportunities for all stakeholders in the tourism sector.
“Clearly, employment and economic recovery will depend on the borders to open. DCL and its stakeholders may consider employment to only vaccinated staff once we are back in business, therefore we urge all in the industry to vaccinate.
“In this manner, we will protect our stakeholders, most importantly our visitors and our vanua.”
