‘100 medically consulted online via VUNIWAI Telemedicine app’

A NADI-BASED physician says more than 100 people have been medically consulted online via the VUNIWAI Telemedicine app.

Dr Krishan Naidu is the first in the country to launch VUNIWAI – an app which connects people with their health care providers for consultation, to book appointments, make payments and access health data online.

The medical clinician said the VUNIWAI App enabled users to chat with a doctor online or over live video from their smartphone or laptop without the hassle of a waiting room.

“Just like an in-person visit, your doctor will take your medical history and symptoms, and recommend a treatment including e-prescriptions and lab work,” Dr Naidu said.

“It has just been over a week since we launched it, we have had over a couple of thousands of registrations done online and we have had over 500 consultations done.

“We probably have done over 100 video consultations and we have decided to keep it free for the month of June just to get a hang of how it works and what are the limitations and challenges.”

Dr Naidu said the app was introduced to avoid face-to-face contact with other patients and healthcare staff and reduce the risk of COVID-19 spread.

He said they would extend their free promotional offer for another month to allow patients to get used to using the app.

Dr Naidu said health care providers could provide eprescriptions, which patients could present at pharmacies.
