Fuli fires up Fijiana 7s
FIJIANA 7s coach Saiasi Fuli has reminded his players about the state of affairs in Fiji regarding the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic.
He had been using the pandemic, which has gripped the nation and rendered an air of helplessness to thousands of Fijians, to psyche up the players ahead of the Pacific-Aus Sports Oceania Sevens tournament which starts at Townsville, Australia, tomorrow.
“I have been reminding the players about the seriousness of events occurring back home,” Fuli said.
“The girls are fully aware of the reality on the ground because they endured those difficult circumstances during the seven weeks in camp prior to arriving in Australia a couple of weeks ago.
“They had been challenged mentally and psychologically as individuals, however experiences as such should be lessons enough to toughen them.
“The girls have been giving their 100 per cent at training and have not been distracted at all. It is about the belief and motivation to achieve their goals and they fully comprehend the present scenario back home.”
The former Fiji halfback said his brigade was focused of a positive outing in the tournament.
The three-day tournament starts tomorrow at the Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville.
The event would be the first time the Fijiana 7s team will lock horns with two of the top four teams in the world after the cancellation of the 2020 HSBC Women’s World Sevens Series.
The team meets reigning Olympic Games women’s rugby gold medaLlist Australia in its first match tomorrow at 5pm before facing the Black Ferns 7s at 10.14pm.
