Ministry fails to respond to her request, claims Dulaki

- By LUKE RAWALAI

A WOMAN living in an apartment complex in Suva where 16 other tenants have tested positive for COVID-19 claims the Health Ministry has not responded to her requests for assistance.

Salaseini Dulaki claimed she was the only symptomatic case after the group were diagnosed last Saturday.

She said 16 others choose to remain in the complex which has shared facilities because they wanted to see the results of their tests.

She said she lived at the Nasese flat with her brother. There are about 50 people living in the building.

“I began feeling the symptoms last Saturday, my body began to feel heavy and fatigued,” Ms Dulaki said.

“We began asking for antibiotics from the medical department.

“We were told a team would come by with the medication, but they never came.

“On Sunday morning I began taking Panadol, which helped my situation a bit, but my body continued to get very weak.

“On Monday I developed a dry cough, severe headache, lost my appetite and felt very cold.

“It was a different kind of cold and even persisted in the hot sun.

“All through Monday, there was still no reply from medical authorities.

“On Tuesday, two people from a team supplying food rations came to see me and said they would notify medical personnel, but no one has turned up.”

Health Ministry permanent secretary Dr James Fong said he was aware of the situation and would be printing the 17 patients’ COVID-19 results.

He did not comment on queries from The Fiji Times regarding the young woman’s claims.
