Buksh issues stern ultimatum to all footballers

- By SHIRAZ KASIM

NAZEEL Buksh has issued a stern ultimatum to all footballers, who are either contracted or intending to represent Rewa Football Association for both the genders at all age-grade levels above 18-years to get fully vaccinated before ‘thinking’ of donning the red jersey.

The president of Foodcity Rewa FC did not mince his words.

“We have been encouraging the players to get vaccinated,” he said.

“The pandemic can only be defeated through vaccination.

“Rewa FC won’t assist any footballer in any way if they refuse to get fully vaccinated; full stop.

“Fiji can get back to normalcy if everyone and not only footballers get the AstraZeneca vaccine twice.”

Buksh lambasted individuals, who have been grossly distorting the truth pertaining to the COVID-19 vaccine.

“It’s so unfortunate to learn about ‘false prophets’ spreading malicious lies regarding the vaccine and taking advantage of vulnerable Fijians in the country.

“They don’t realize the serious implications of their actions; it’s taking the country backwards.

“Everyone should work together. “Any individual who loves his beloved Fiji will do the correct thing and get fully vaccinated.

“Stop being selfish.”

He added a minority number of Rewa FC players had shown their resentment to get the jabs.

“Only a few of the players have stated that they are ‘undecided’ at the moment.

“The majority of footballers competing in the Digicel Premier League have received their first jabs and are probably a couple of weeks away to get their second ones.”

The Southerners are the first local football district to go public about implementing the directive after Fiji Football Association’s president Rajesh Patel had said four important words earlier being ‘no jabs no play’!
