“It’s very important for everyone eligible for the vaccine to be inoculated at the earliest,” Mr Ram said. “The vaccine is extremely effective and because of the rapid rise in new COVID-19 positive cases each day, it’s better to be cautious.

“We fall in the most vulnerable group of people because of our ages respectively so we plead to everyone to exercise the COVID-19 health and safety measures in place.

“Get vaccinated to assist the country move forward.”

Mrs Wati added they did not experience any side effects after getting their first jabs.

“We didn’t feel a thing and don’t understand the reason people are creating fear in the country about the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine.

“The Ministry of Health hasn’t declared a single Fijian to have passed away because of getting a jab. People should refrain from spreading malicious lies but rather join hands to take the country forward. Together we can.”

Both respected citizens confirmed receiving their first jabs on Friday, June 11 at Masimasi Primary School in Sabeto and are eagerly looking forward to being fully vaccinated in September.
