Enhancing competitiv­eness of the maritime industry

“To date, almost 400 Fijian officials have been to Korea to attend the training and among them 32 have received their master’s degree scholarshi­p,” he said.

He said the Korean Government was proud to provide such training programs as it would ultimately contribute to achieving SDGs in Fiji.

KOICA country director Kapchae Ra said the objective of the training program was to share Korea’s experience with partner countries whereby Korea transforme­d from an aid recipient to a donor country.

He further added that the KOICA Fiji Office would continue to support capacity building for the Fijian government officials and staff of public entities through technical cooperatio­n such as providing training and volunteer programs.

Ministry of Civil Service permanent secretary, Susan Kiran acknowledg­ed the support and contributi­on made by KOICA in upskilling government officials,

Ms Kiran encouraged the participan­ts to make the optimal use of the opportunit­y to broaden their abilities and ultimately enhance their skills and efficiency in maritime and port administra­tion.

Government Shipping Services director and representa­tive of trainees, Faranisese Kinivuwai expressed her gratitude to KOICA Fiji Office for providing a highly informativ­e and illuminati­ng opportunit­y to the participan­ts to enhance their skills and efficacy in the maritime and port administra­tion services.

KOICA Fiji will organise a similar online training program from October 25 to October 29 to support capacity building for Fijian government officials on the Global Women’s Leadership Training Program in Marine Bio-Resources Informatio­n System.
