Campaign begins

- By REPEKA NASIKO

DESPITE the global pandemic wreaking havoc for many businesses, Nadi-based security company Wormald marked the beginning of the breast cancer awareness campaign Pinktober.

Company security manager Mike Jamieson said while they were also affected by the economic impact of COVID-19, they wanted to mark the month-long campaign in their own little way.

“We mark Pinktober every year but because of COVID-19 there will be some things that we won’t be able to do but despite that we still wanted to mark this very important issue,” he said.

“For us, this is important because 30 per cent of our workforce is made up of women.

“I think we are the only security company in the country that has the largest number of women in their workforce and that is very different for an industry that is predominantly male.

“So we are very proud of that fact and because of that we are very committed to raising issues that affect our women and our male workers are very much in support of that.

“We hope that even though we have COVID-19 and this is still a challenging time for everyone we are still able to raise awareness on things that are still affecting us as a community.”

He says the company carries out various activities during the month long campaign but would stick to the COVID-19 regulations.

“We usually organise screenings for our workers but we don’t want to do that this year because our health officials are already dealing with COVID-19.

“But we still want to spread the message that comes with Pinktober and hope that people talk about the issue of breast cancer.”
