12 juveniles charged – ODPP

Non-sexual violence offences for September

THERE were 12 juveniles charged for non-sexual violence offences last month.

This, according to statistics released by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutio­ns (ODPP) of non-sexual violence offences for September.

According to the statistics, there were 47 people charged with 67 counts of separate incidents in September.

The statistics revealed that of the 47 accused persons, 12 were juveniles who were charged with aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and theft offences.

Statistics further showed that the 67 offences included 10 counts of aggravated robbery , 23 counts of aggravated burglary, 24 counts of theft, three counts of assault causing grievous bodily harm, one count for act with intent to cause grievous harm, three counts of resisting arrest, one for breach of bail, one, disobeying lawful order and making off without payment. There were 25 victims of the 67 counts of separate incidents and there was one incident where the accused and victim were related to one another.

“A 42-year-old man was charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm to his 29-year-old stepson.

“The accused allegedly assaulted his stepson with an iron rod. In another incident, a 47-year-old man was charged with assault causing grievous bodily harm to a 56-year-old man,” the statistics said.

“There was one incident where a 43-year-old man was charged with an act with intent to cause grievous bodily harm to a 22-year-old man. The accused allegedly tried to burn the victim because he wanted to teach him a lesson for sniffing petrol.”

The statistics also highlighte­d that cash and assorted items ranging from $50 to $7000 were stolen during the alleged aggravated robbery, aggravated burglary and theft offences which consisted of home invasions, shop burglaries, taxi car jacks and daylight and night street robberies.

There were four separate aggravated robbery incidents where taxidriver­s were attacked and robbed.
