FEO: 204 new voters register
THE FIJIAN Elections Office had 204 new registrations since Monday this week. This, according to Supervisor of Elections Mohammed Saneem.
He said from October 4 they had received close to 2000 engagements from voters who had upgraded their cards and updated their details.
“Of these 1961 voters, there were 204 new registrations which is very very encouraging considering the students who are at home, have the time to come and update and actually register for the elections,” he said.
He said Fijians were able to update and upgrade their voter cards when more voter service centres are opened in major towns and cities across the country and plans were in progress to roll out on a larger scale in the weekend as they were anticipating greater response from Fijians.
From today, 15 teams were based at the Suva Voter Services Centre office, three teams in Navua, two teams in Sigatoka, three teams in Nadi at the Nadi Sangam School, Lautoka — FEO Voter Services Centre and Lautoka Muslim Primary School with seven teams, three teams in Ba, two teams in Rakiraki and two teams at the Legal Aid building in Labasa.
On Saturday, teams will also be based at the Voter Services Centre office in Suva, Civic Centre, Laqere Market in Nasinu, Rups Mega complex, Navua, Sigatoka, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Rakiraki, Labasa and Nausori. He said there would be 15 teams at the Nakasi Rups Mega complex, three markets at the Namaka market and five teams in Lautoka on Sunday. He said they would be moving teams around should the need arise in order to facilitate as many voters as possible.
