The Fiji Times

‘Do it the next day’

- By WANSHIKA KUMAR

IF Mr Wesley wants to provide the clarifications and remove confusion, he got to do it the very next day.

This was the response made by the Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem, to The Fiji Times editor Fred Wesley for his comments in an article published yesterday.

Wesley, in the article titled ‘FEO takes a swipe at Times’, said that Mr Saneem “has a duty to correct that by responding to questions”.

“I just wanted to inform Mr Fred Wesley, the editor of The Fiji Times who in the last paragraph says ‘he has a duty to correct that by responding to questions’,” Mr Saneem said.

“I give you one example and I have many more if Mr Wesley wants, the Fijian Elections Office issued a press statement, roughly six pages of press statements on the 29th of August, 2021, for his information, this is how the media in Fiji ran it.

“Fiji Village very efficiently ran it on the 29th of August, the same day the statement was issued, FBC also ran it on 29th of August, the same day the statement was issued, Fiji Sun published it on the 30th of August which is one day after as would be expected of a newspaper, how about Fiji Times, four days later in six different articles on the 2nd of September.

“That’s how The Fiji Times ran it, so ladies and gentlemen if Mr Wesley wants to provide the clarifications and remove confusions, you gotta do it the very next day mate.

“You can’t run it four days later and in many different segments, with many different ways to cover it.”

You can’t run it four days later and in many different segments, with many different ways to cover it – Mohammed Saneem
